This article examines computer information as an element of a crime in Russian criminal law. Law enforcement practice in the field of criminal prosecution of computer crimes shows that differing interpretation of computer information as an element of a crime among police officers lead to errors in the classification of such crimes. Within this research, an analysis was conducted of crimes where computer information serves as an element of the crime, as well as solutions to the identified problem to ensure uniform application of criminal law in the classification of cybercrimes. Various scholarly opinionsregarding the classification of computer information as the object, means, or instrument of a crime are analyzed.
