The article examines the role of the NKVD bodies in the Great Patriotic War, describes their functions in ensuring security, maintaining order and combating internal and external threats. The NKVD internal troops and the police actively participated in military operations, protecting the rear (fighting saboteurs), ensuring the evacuation of citizens and strategic cargo. The main attention is paid to the successful adaptation of the NKVD structure to the challenges of wartime and the analysis of their work, contribution to the achievements of Victory.
