This work highlights the importance and essence of the preliminary verification stage performed by law enforcement agencies when receiving reports of crimes. The emphasis is on the place and importance of this process in effective investigation and enforcement of the law. The article helps to understand the importance of pre-screening as an important stage of law enforcement procedures and allows law enforcement agencies to effectively assess and process reports of potential crimes in order to improve the quality of investigations and ensure fairness in justice. The authors conclude that the preliminary check is aimed at obtaining reliable information about the event, its characteristics, place and time of commission, circumstances and consequences of the crime.
