The author identifies three groups of factors that influence the activity of the population's participation in the fight against crime. The first group consists of factors determined by the attitude towards crime. They can be manifested by the understanding of crime as a social phenomenon of a specific category of criminal acts, as well as a specific crime and the person who committed it. The second group includes factors determined by the attitude to the internal affairs bodies as a whole, a specific operational unit or an individual employee. The third group consists of factors related to the personality of the person involved in confidential assistance and his assessment of his participation in this process - these are the character traits of the potential confidant, his place and role in solving the tasks of combating crime, involvement in the committed act, past illegal activities, prevailing customs and mores of the involved circle of persons.
